Alice Spinelli, APRN, AOCN is joining Cancer Care Centers of Brevard in Melbourne, FL, as a Genetics Nurse Practitioner. She is board-certified in oncology and has over 18 years of experience serving cancer patients in Brevard county. Ms. Spinelli will lead the development of a hereditary cancer risk assessment program and partner with The US Oncology Network’s GREAT (Genetic Risk Evaluation and Testing) Program.

Genetics is a rapidly evolving field of health care with implications for both cancer prevention and treatment. Ms. Spinelli sees herself primarily as a patient educator and advocate, assisting patients in understanding their testing options, results, and the potential impact for themselves and their families.

Ms. Spinelli is a past president of the Society of Gynecologic Nurse Oncologists and has served on the board of directors of the American Cancer Society’s local units and the Ovarian Cancer Alliance of Florida. She served on the Scientific and Medical Advisory Board of the Ovarian Cancer National Alliance, now the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund (OCRF), until 2016. Locally, she is president of C.A.R.E (Cancer, Advocacy, Resources and Education), an OCRF affiliate. In 2005, she participated in Merck’s oncology expert input panel for the development of the HPV vaccine. She received her undergraduate nursing degree from Florida State University, her nurse practitioner certification from the University of Virginia and her master’s degree in nursing from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.

Ms. Spinelli completed City of Hope’s Intensive Course in Cancer Risk Assessment, and remains a member of their Clinical Cancer Genomics Community of Practice, enabling her to stay abreast of the rapidly evolving advances in cancer genetics.

In her free time, Ms. Spinelli enjoys spending time with her husband, four-legged children and family. She enjoys being outdoors and loves to play at playing tennis.
